4th of July

Here are some photos from 4th of July. I had a really good 4th with the boys. I dressed them up in their American clothes. We made star cookies and a star cake. I found a hat and apron and I wore it all day. We had hamburgers for dinner! What a great 4th!

A Package

I recently got a package in the mail from my parents. It was awesome-as always! They sent a lot of clothes for the boys....matching clothes that are so adorable! We were having family photos taken on July 19th, but our photographer was in a motorcycle accident and has spinal injuries....so needless to say...we are not having family photos now. We want some special photos of the boys before we go to the states....so I think we are just going to do some ourselves with the cute clothes that mom and dad sent us.

They bought Noah this great potty seat to go on our potty! He is pretty much out of diapers now during the day and now tells me when he needs to go....yeah! He wont sit on the potty without his new, special potty chair. They also sent Dave a tigger and a winnie the pooh. He loves the tigger. It is his favorite.

This is hilarious!

A 3-year-old tells all from his mother's restroom stall. By Shannon Popkin

My little guy, Cade, is quite a talker. He loves to communicate and does it quite well. He talks to people constantly, whether we're in the library, the grocery store or at a drive-thru window. People often comment on how clearly he speaks for a just-turned-3-year-old. And you never have to ask him to turn up the volume. It's always fully cranked. There've been several embarrassing times that I've wished the meaning of his words would have been masked by a not-so-audible voice, but never have I wished this more than last week at Costco.

Halfway, through our shopping trip, nature called, so I took Cade with me into the restroom. If you 'd been one of the ladies in the restroom that evening, this is what you would have heard coming from the second to the last stall: 'Mommy, are you gonna go potty? Oh! Why are you putting toiwet paperon the potty, Mommy? Oh! You gonna sit down on DA toiwet paper now? Mommy, what are you doing? Mommy, are you gonna go stinkies on the potty?'

At this point I started mentally counting how many women had been in the bathroom when I walked in. Several stalls were full ... 4? 5? Maybe we could wait until they all left before I had to make my debut out of this stall and reveal my identity.

Cade continued, 'Mommy, you ARE going stinkies aren't you? Oh, dats agood girl, Mommy! Are you gonna get some candy for going stinkies on thepotty? Let me see doze stinkies, Mommy! Oh ... Mommy! I'm trying to see in dere. Oh! I see dem. Dat is a very good girl,Mommy. You are gonna get some candy!'

I heard a few faint chuckles coming from the stalls on either side of me. Where is a screaming new born when you need her? Good grief. This was really getting embarrassing. I was definitely waiting a long time before exiting. Trying to divert him, I said, 'Why don't you look in Mommy's purse and see if you can find some candy We'll both have some!' '

No, I'mtrying to see doze more stinkies. Oh! Mommy!' He started to gag at this point. 'Uh oh, Mommy. I fink I'm gonna frow up. Mommy, doze stinkies are making me frow up!! Dat is so gross!!' As the gags became louder, so did the chuckles outside my stall . I quickly flushed the toilet in hopes of changing the subject.

I began to reason with myself: OK. There are four other toilets. If I count four flushes, I can be reasonably assured that those who overheard this embarrassing monologue will be long gone.

'Mommy! Would you get off the potty, now? I want you to be done going stinkies! Get up! Get up!' He grunted as he tried to pull me off. Now I could hear full-blown laughter. I bent down to count the feet outside my door. 'Oh, are you wooking under dere, Mommy? You wooking under DAdoor? What were you wooking at, Mommy? You wooking at the wady's feet?' More laughter.

I stood inside the locked door and tried to assess thesituation. 'Mommy, it's time to wash our hands, now. We have to go out now, Mommy.' He started pounding on the door. 'Mommy, don't you want to wash your hands? I want to go out!!'

I saw that my 'wait 'em out' plan was unraveling I sheepishly opened the door, and found standing outside my stall, twenty to thirty ladies crowded around the stall, all smiling and starting to applaud. My first thought was complete embarrassment, then I thought, 'Where's the fine print on the 'motherhood contract' where I signed away every bit of my dignity and privacy?'

But as my little boy gave me a big, cheeky grin while he rubbed bubbly soap between his chubby little hands, I thought, I'd sign it all away again, just to be known as Mommy to this little fellow.

Citizenship and Passports

We had a great day yesterday. We made it to Brisbane with plenty of time to spare till our 1:45 appointment. We drove 4 hours to spend only about 5 minutes signing paper work. Dave is now officially a US citizen!!! We will get his passport in a few weeks! We had a great time with Josh and Tamra...we had fun eating Krispy Kreme too. Here are a few pictures. The US doesnt have an embassy in Brisbane (what comes to Brisbane is sort of a "traveling embassy") so there wasnt any security and it was really relaxed. This was totally different from when we had to go to Sydney to the actual US embassy for Noah. Yesterday, we were in a place that was General D. MacArthur's office/headquarters so we got to walk around and see all the historic stuff while we waited. Dad would have loved it!
What's next? We will now apply for Dave's Australian passport. This is no big deal. We just need to fill out a form, pay money, and send it in.

I have been waiting till September to get my Australian citizenship because I am required to have 2 years in Australia as a permanent resident...this includes 1 year without leaving the country. Because we were in Vietnam, I thought I was not able to apply for citizenship till September. Last week, we found out that they have changed this. As long as I was with Shane during the time I was not in Australia, it can count as residency!!! This means that I can go ahead and apply now. I will have to take a citizenship test...so I will have to get studying!!! I am able to have dual citizenship and I do not have to renounce my US citizenship (many people ask me if I am giving up my US citizenship...NO WAY!)
More paperwork ahead...but it is worth it to have us all citizens of the same countries...NOW...the only this left is for Shane to get his US citizenship. How do we get Shane his US citizenship?????????????? Any ideas?

The Farm

So we say Good-Bye to Glendyne Farm this week. Shane's parents are moving on. We have had some great times there. We got great pictures on the tractor the last time we stayed there. Enjoy!
